FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT

 

On the reverse of this sheet there is an outline of the proposed programme for our family gathering. As previously, we are privileged to be able to begin the day at Frenchay Meeting House. Once again, there will be an opportunity for family members to bring and display the heirlooms they have in their safe keeping. Roger Sturge has agreed to give another short talk that will introduce us to the history of our family before we set out to visit some of those ancient home sites.

Whilst we had hired a marquee and served a full buffet in 1980, we now plan a simple sandwich lunch at Frenchay on this occasion, keeping down the costs of the day. On current prices, we are hopeful that the costs of hiring the coaches and venue, food and administration would be under £20 per person. In order to encourage attendance by the younger generation, we had previously subsidised the cost for children and shall do this again if there is general support for that proposal - which means a slightly higher cost for each adult.

The Pilgrimage will take place on Saturday 23rd July 2005 but, for those who wish to do so, there will be the option of gathering on the day prior to the event. We are considering using an hotel on the outskirts of Bristol as our base and expect to obtain group rates in this medium priced hotel. It is situated close to Frenchay, the M4 / M32 motorway junction and Bristol Parkway railway station. A coach will be provided to between Frenchay, the hotel and Bristol Parkway station on the day of the Pilgrimage. Full details of these arrangements will be given next year. If you feel you might be interested in hotel accommodation, but without any obligation at this stage, please let us know so that we may have an idea of numbers and negotiate appropriate rates.

We are most grateful to the present owners of our old family homes for their generous hospitality in agreeing to our visiting these sites. By restructuring the day we shall now have more time for the coach tour, taking a different route and being able to spend more time at each location.
